Την Πέμπτη, ο CEO του UFC Dana White ανακοίνωσε πως ο Lopes θα αντιμετωπίσει ξανά τον Volkanovski στις 31 Ιανουαρίου στο Σίδνεϊ της Αυστραλίας, σε ένα main event που έχει προκαλέσει ήδη πολλές αντιδράσεις. Ο Βραζιλιάνος μαχητής προέρχεται από θεαματικό knockout επί του Jean Silva στο ‘Noche UFC 3’, ωστόσο πολλοί θεωρούν πως η ρεβάνς έρχεται πολύ νωρίς.
Lerone Murphy και Aljamain Sterling, κορυφαίοι διεκδικητές της featherweight κατηγορίας, άσκησαν έντονη κριτική, με τον Murphy να σχολιάζει: «Δεν έχει να κάνει πια με το ποιος είναι ο καλύτερος, αλλά με το ποιος είναι ο πιο δημοφιλής», ενώ ο Sterling με διαδοχικά tweets αμφισβήτησε το matchmaking.
Ο Lopes, όμως, δεν άφησε τίποτα αναπάντητο και μέσω social media έστειλε σκληρό μήνυμα:
«Η φάτσα μου όταν τους είδα όλους να κλαίνε. Καθισμένοι στον καναπέ, δεν θα σας δοθεί ποτέ μάχη για τίτλο. Δουλέψτε και σταματήστε να γκρινιάζετε στα social media.»
Το σχόλιο του Lopes ταιριάζει ειδικά στην περίπτωση του Movsar Evloev, ο οποίος, αν και αήττητος και με νίκη επί του Sterling, δεν αγωνίστηκε ούτε μία φορά μέσα στο 2025. Ωστόσο, δεν αντικατοπτρίζει πλήρως την κατάσταση για Murphy και Sterling, καθώς:
Ο Murphy (18-0) προέρχεται από θεαματικό νοκ άουτ επί του Aaron Pico, ενώ ο Sterling είχε κυρίαρχη νίκη απέναντι στον Brian Ortega, μόλις έναν μήνα πριν το ματς του Lopes.
Ήδη ο Evloev πρότεινε να αντιμετωπίσει τον Murphy για την ανάδειξη του επόμενου διεκδικητή της ζώνης, με τον Murphy να δηλώνει έτοιμος να κοιτάξει μπροστά.
Η συζήτηση για το αν ο Lopes αξίζει τη ρεβάνς φουντώνει. Πάντως, εκείνος έχει μόνο ένα μήνυμα: «Όποιος θέλει τη ζώνη, ας δουλέψει μέσα στο κλουβί και όχι στο Twitter.»
